Music. Community. Sustainability.

Rocanotherworld is an exploratory festival of music, art, thoughts, people, and ideas, organized in Iași since 2016. It represents an authentic collective journey, a state of mind, a celebration of life through (re)connecting with the values we resonate with— a cultural effervescence we need in shaping the way we are and the way we feel.

Volunteering is a dimension to which we dedicate special attention, both during the festival itself and throughout the entire year. New generations and the skill sets they carry into their professional lives as a result of the experiences gained through volunteer activities— the causes they engage in, the practice and experimentation— chart an essential path for their personal development.

The festival focuses its efforts on supporting communities, opening a stage and a space for exposure, listening, and experimentation for underground, indie, and alternative music, as well as for electronic and acoustic sounds, offering artists the opportunity to meet new audiences and vice versa.

With our hearts wide open 🤗

Across the nine editions organized (2016–2024), we have discovered bands and artists, thoughts and ideas; we have been moved by stories and we have met people. These nine years have meant, in numbers:

Be For Others

Its values are “be curious”, “be different”, and “be for others”, and this last belief has generated an important component of the festival: the causes we have joined and supported with solidarity at every edition—whether it involved shelters, homes, and a better life for those in need, independent artists and performance spaces for them, creating outdoor areas for recreational activities during the warm season, local clean-ups, equipping hospitals with supplies and devices, and many more.

Each year we have chosen an initiative to engage in together with our participants and partners, and this solidarity-driven and socially impactful component will always remain an essential part of the festival.

Zero Waste

With this zero-waste concept and ideal in mind, we set short-, medium-, and long-term objectives across several general directions, increasing progressively over the course of five years, starting with the summer 2021 edition.

By 2025, we aim to eliminate 100% of the plastic used in the festival’s food and beverage area and replace it with sustainable materials, to use renewable and alternative energy sources up to 75%, to reduce our carbon footprint, and to ensure separate waste collection. Thus, based on principles of prevention, reuse, redesign, and recycling, we will shape a festival that is as responsible as possible toward nature.

Backstory

  • 2024

Gathered under the sign of balance, over 18,000 participants enjoyed the ninth edition of Rocanotherworld, held between June 20–23, 2024, in Iași. Across four festival days, the three stages hosted more than 120 invited artists, while our audience explored a variety of educational and recreational activities: workshops, yoga and ecstatic dance sessions, debates, guided meditations, specially designed relaxation areas, games for both children and adults, a food court area, and much more.

In line with the mission adopted since 2021—to be an environmentally friendly festival—we have encouraged and will continue to implement sustainability principles, full waste recycling, the avoidance of wastefulness, and responsibility toward nature. Within the “Do you happen to have a blanket?” campaign, 508 kg of dog food (wet and dry), 60 kg of cat food, bags of sand, cat litter, cleaning products, blankets, litter boxes, and toys were donated.

We were delighted to have 150 volunteers with us, all resonating with the festival’s three core values: #becurious, #bedifferent, #beforothers.

Ioan Dan Niculescu („Roca”)

The festival was inspired by Ioan Dan Niculescu (“Roca”) — designer, traveler, DJ, gourmand, entrepreneur, and soul-opener — and all its activities are shaped around the intention of giving.

In celebration of his life, Rocanotherworld is organized around June 23, and each summer edition of the festival hosts the food and supplies collection campaign for shelter animals, initiated by Roca: “Do you happen to have a blanket?”.

We inspire creation. We build communities. Together, we shape the cultural future through projects that bring people, ideas, and perspectives together.
